The Law and Order Core Committee has taken several important decisions to maintain the law and order situation and further strengthen the overall security system. These decisions were taken at a meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Strict surveillance and raids intensified
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken various steps to further strengthen the security system in the capital. In the last 24 hours (from 12 am on Sunday to 12 am on Monday), a total of 500 patrol teams were on duty in 50 police stations of Dhaka.
In addition, a total of 54 check posts have been operated at important and strategic locations in the capital. According to sources from the Crime Command and Control Center of the DMP, extensive measures have been taken to control crime through these patrols and check posts.
In addition to the DMP, patrols by other forces have also been strengthened:
- CTTC (Counter-Terrorism Unit): 7 patrol teams
- Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU): 4 patrol teams
- Rapid Action Battalion (RAB): 10 patrol teams
- Armed Police Battalion (APBN): Operating 31 checkpoints
According to the police headquarters, 639 people have been arrested in the last 24 hours in the "Operation Devil Hunt" campaign across the country. In addition, 999 suspects with warrants in other cases have also been arrested.
Eighty-two raids in Dhaka, 248 people arrested
DMP has arrested 248 people in eighty-three raids in different parts of the capital. They include:
- 14 robbers
- 16 professional robbers
- 7 extortionists
- 11 thieves
- 22 identified drug dealers
- 44 suspects with warrants
Rezaul Karim Mallick, Additional Commissioner of the Intelligence Department (DB) of the DMP, said, "The police are taking all measures to maintain law and order. No matter how organized the criminals are, no concessions will be made."
Important decisions of the core committee
The decisions taken at the core committee meeting chaired by Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury include:
- Increased searches and patrols
- Checkpoints will be increased at important points in the capital.
- Police patrols will be increased in crime-prone areas.
- A joint force will be formed and a strong operation will be conducted in specific areas.
- Increasing the capacity of security forces
- Additional patrols by the Navy and Coast Guard will be deployed on several important roads in the capital.
- Motorcycles will be purchased for members of the DMP, BGB, Ansar, and Coast Guard so that they can quickly patrol the alleyways.
- 500 APBN members will be attached to the DMP and used to maintain law and order.
- Strict action against criminals
- An updated list of terrorists based on police stations will be prepared.
- Immediate steps will be taken to bring terrorists, drug dealers, and criminals to justice.
- Swift and strict legal action will be taken against anti-social elements.
Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Housing and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Khoda Box Chowdhury, and senior officials of various law enforcement agencies were also present at the meeting.
Drugs recovered and weapons seized
DMP's Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Police Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman said in a press release that a large amount of weapons and drugs were recovered from the arrested persons in the operation.
The recovered items include:
- 3 knives
- 4 knives
- 1 chapati
- 1 tooth
- 49 kg 870 grams of marijuana
- 704 pieces of Yaba
The DMP said that operations against theft, robbery and drugs will be further strengthened in the capital.
