Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has called for the active participation of the general public in curbing various crimes including robbery in the capital. He said, "When a crime occurs, people around take out their mobile phones and record videos instead of preventing it. I request everyone to come forward and create resistance. If someone is in danger, then everyone should come forward together."
He made these remarks while inspecting ongoing activities to strengthen public safety in front of the Novotheater adjacent to Bijoy Sarani in the capital on Tuesday (February 25) midnight.
The importance of civic responsibility and crime prevention
The DMP Commissioner said, "Earlier, people would try to prevent crime if they saw it, but now that is not seen. Now everyone is just making videos, but it is important to come forward to help the person who is being attacked."
He further said, "Not only the police, but also citizens should play a role in preventing crime from their respective positions. Because it is possible to build a safe city with the collective efforts of everyone."
Intensify operations and take strict action against criminals
He said that special surveillance has been increased at various important places in the capital to curb crime. Law enforcement agencies are conducting continuous operations to arrest identified terrorists and criminals.
Security analysts see the DMP Commissioner's call as positive. They believe that it is possible to build effective resistance against criminals through public awareness and active participation.
