A young man named Qayyum Molya (27), the driver of the pickup, was killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup on the Hemayetpur-Singair-Manikganj regional highway. On the other hand, 8 people, including the driver and passenger of the truck and CNG, were seriously injured.
A tragic accident occurred on the Singair-Manikganj-Hemayetpur road adjacent to Sanail ABC Fish Farm in Baira Union of the upazila on Tuesday (February 25) afternoon. The deceased, Qayyum Molya, hails from Char-Bhakum village in Joymantop Union of the upazila. He is the son of Abdul Molya of that village. The injured are Palash Biswas (35), son of Harun Biswas of Jhitka Sonakanta village in Harirampur upazila, Sanchay Kumar Dutta (60), son of Anil Dutta of Gopalpur village in the same upazila, Alamgir Kabir Sarkar (35), son of Nizam Uddin of Green Road, Dhaka, Mosharraf (35), son of Sujan Mia of Isaganj in Mymensingh district, Ripon (40), son of Usman of Azimpur village in Singair upazila, Omar Ali (58), son of Sheikh Amer Ali of the same village, Mamun (42), son of Gafur Biswas of Arapara area in Savar upazila, and Mehedi (27), son of Habibur Rahman of Mymensingh district.
Locals said that when the Manikganj-bound truck (Pirojpur T-11-0356) reached the area on the Hemayetpur-Singair-Manikganj regional highway adjacent to the Sanail ABC brick kiln in Baira union of the upazila, a Dhaka-bound pickup (Dhaka-Metro-No-13-6625) coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with it. As a result, the two trucks were crushed in front. During the accident, the CNG truck behind the Manikganj-bound truck went under the truck and crushed it. At that time, the driver of the pickup, Qayyum Molya, died on the spot. 8 people were seriously injured in the incident. The locals rescued the injured and took them to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty referred 5 people to Dhaka for better treatment. 3 people were released after receiving primary treatment. Traffic movement in the area was disrupted for about 1 hour after the accident. Later, the police reached the spot, cleared the traffic jam and seized 2 trucks and 1 CNG.
Singair Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Swapan Kumar Sarkar said that one person has died in a road accident. Police are at the scene. He also said that legal matters are under process.
