A fire broke out in the area adjacent to the fish market at Miarhat Port in Nesarabad Upazila of Pirojpur.
50 shops were burnt to ashes. Traders claim that the loss is around 100 crore taka.
The fire broke out around 5:30 am on Tuesday (February 25).
Later, five units of the Barisal, Banaripara, Pirojpur, Kaukhali and Nesarabad Fire Service brought the fire under control after about 3 hours of effort.
It is known that the fire started at around 5:30 am from the shop of an electronics trader named Masud in the market. Later, the help of the locals was sought from the mosque's microphone to put out the fire. At the same time, the Nesarabad Fire Service was called and first the Nesarabad Fire Service and then the Barisal, Banaripara, Pirojpur and Kaukhali fire station personnel came and worked with the local residents to put out the fire. By then, about 50 shops in the market had burned down.
However, no casualties were reported in the fire incident.
Amir Hossain, a businessman who was affected, said, "I went to the shop after receiving the news of the fire around 5:30 am. When I went there, I saw that my shop was on fire. I couldn't take out any goods. I had two shops. Both shops were burnt to ashes."
Badal Bepari, general secretary of the Miarhat Bazar Association, said, "The fire broke out around 5:30 am. About 50 shops in our market were burnt to ashes. Since everyone here is a big businessman, the loss is estimated to be hundreds of crores of taka."
In this regard, Acting Assistant Director of Barisal Fire Service Md. Belal Uddin said, after receiving the information, 5 units of the fire service brought the fire under control in about 3 hours of effort. It is believed that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit in the shop of an electronics trader named Masud. However, the extent of the damage will be known after investigation.
