Lakshmipur Correspondent:
There have been allegations of a daily wage worker being beaten repeatedly by a union BNP leader in Lakshmipur for not receiving the demanded money.
A group of 10-12 people, including Rakib and Rajib, former members of Ward No. 2 of Charramoni Mohan Union in Sadar and supporters of Union-BNP President Ali Hossain, demanded extortion from daily wage mountain trolley driver Md. Hridoy (25). Md. Hridoy is the son of deceased Harun of Charruhita village in Sadar.
Rakib and Rajib started beating him indiscriminately after not getting the desired amount of money. At this time, when Hridoy tried to run to save his life and enter the office room of Iqbal Bricks, they threw bricks at him from behind and beat him severely. At this time, Kamal Uddin, the owner of Iqbal Bricks, was helplessly denying the incident of beating Iqbal.
Mohammad Hridoy, who was injured in the beating, showed the reporter his injuries and said, "Ali Hossain sent his sons to block my car and demanded money. I told him to tell the person who sent him to come. When he said this, he slapped me, pulled me off the steering wheel of the car, kicked me and threw me down. At that time, the people of the brick kiln rescued me when I screamed. When I tried to run into the kiln office, they beat me brutally in front of the company there too.
When asked about the extortion demand and beatings, BNP leader Ali Hossain first said, "Write it down." Later, after various pleas, he denied the incident and said, "UNO gave me the responsibility to stop the hill trolley. I sent some boys and asked them to block the hill trolley of the brick kiln. I don't know what happened after that."
Regarding this, brick kiln owner Kamal Uddin Iqbal said, "They said they wouldn't beat any animal like they beat the boy. Their beating is like eating food without eating it directly. I can call the attack on my office another example of extortion. I strongly condemn this incident."
When news of the extortion and beating spread, the local people blocked the road by throwing tree trunks at the Sabujer Goja on the Karatir Hat road via Quader Goja. Upon receiving the news, the Sadar Model Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
In this regard, Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Abdul Munnaf said, "Police were quickly sent to the scene upon receiving the news. The situation is normal now."
