BNP Chairperson's Advisor and former Opposition Chief Whip Joynal Abedin Faruk said, "BNP has been protesting and holding strikes for 16 years to topple the dictator Hasina. The result of that is the July student revolution. Therefore, local government elections cannot be allowed to be held before the parliamentary elections. We will not allow it."
He made these remarks at a public meeting organized by the district BNP at Shaheed Minar square in Nilphamari on Tuesday (February 25/25) afternoon.
The former chief whip said, "We don't want votes during the day or at night. We don't want the votes of dead people, nor do we want the mirror house built by Sheikh Hasina. We have not been defeated in the fight taught by Begum Khaleda Zia in the past 16 years. We have been defeated by the police's Benazir, we have been defeated by Hasina's bureaucrats. They too must take action." He also demanded that the fascist Hasina, who fled, and other leaders and activists of the Awami League be brought back to the country.
Those who have cut off people's hands and legs in the past, did not allow BNP to participate in the elections. The BNP leader demanded that the SPs and DCs who stole votes during the day and cast them at night be brought under the law.
The rally was chaired by District BNP President Alamgir Sarkar and moderated by General Secretary Zahurul Alam. Thousands of people, including leaders and activists of district and upazila-level associate organizations, were also present at the rally.
Earlier, a procession from the city's Dalpatti area, led by District BNP Co-Organizing Secretary Redwanul Haque Babu, along with other leaders and activists, came to the Central Shaheed Minar to join the rally.
