Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the statements of some people in the interim government are creating an unstable situation in the country. He said, "We will still help this government. We hope that the interim government will maintain the neutrality that people expect from it." He made these remarks while addressing the Comilla Metropolitan BNP's biannual conference virtually on Tuesday (February 25) afternoon as the chief guest.
Addressing the interim government, Tarique Rahman said, "We have been observing instability in Bangladesh for some time now. Today, various questions have arisen in the minds of the people about those who have taken the responsibility of running the country. We have been supporting this interim government since the time we formed the government. Because, we wanted this government to restore the lost voting rights of the people through a fair and impartial election. We are observing that different people in this government are saying different things about restoring the rights of the people."
He said, there may be differences among political parties. But differences cannot be created through differences. This will harm the country and democratic parties. Therefore, we have to remain united. The more united we are, the more the conspiracies of those planning against democracy will be thwarted.
Tarique Rahman said, "It remains to be seen who will benefit if the elections are delayed in Bangladesh at this time. BNP believes that the people are the source of all power. If the practice of democracy can be continued in Bangladesh, the more we can keep the people of Bangladesh safe from conspiracies. If the right to vote is guaranteed in the country, then BNP will be organizationally strong."
He further said, BNP has reached this position today through six elections over 45/46 years, through various movements and struggles, through absenteeism and false cases. In some elections, BNP formed the government with the support of the people, in some elections, BNP formed the opposition government. BNP has become the people's political party today. However, we will continue to try to meet the people's expectations more in the future.
Tarique Rahman said, BNP speaks about the people. The goal and objective of a political party is how to keep the people involved with its party. There is a plan, how to form the government. And the only way to do this is to form a government of the people through votes. As a political party, our main objective is to go to the people. Since we believe in the rule of the people, we believe in the politics of votes, so it is natural that we will ask for votes, ask for elections. But many people cannot accept this natural thing.
Addressing the newly formed president and general secretary of the Metropolitan BNP, Tarique Rahman said, "Your main and one of the responsibilities is to work to bring the trust of the common people of Comilla Metropolitan City to the party. You have to work to bring out the right leadership. We have to work to convey the ideology and policies of our party to every person in Comilla Metropolitan City. Let us request the council that we, not only Comilla Metropolitan City, but the entire Bangladesh, have to realize the demands for which hundreds, thousands of our colleagues have been victims of disappearances, murders, killings and disappearance cases. Let this be our promise."
He added, "It's not enough to just ensure the right to vote, we also need to ensure the right to cast the vote for which people have given their lives."
Addressing all the leaders and activists present at the last conference, Tarique Rahman said, "We have to continue the movement to achieve the rights of the people of the country. We will present various plans for the welfare of the people of the country. Other parties will also do the same. The people will decide who will be given the responsibility of running the country in the future. Come on, now is the time to build the country. Our efforts must continue to build the state structure of the country. This is our promise." Advertisement
The conference will be addressed by party Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu as the main speaker. Among others, speeches will be delivered by the party's Comilla Divisional Organizing Secretary Principal Selim Bhuiyan, Comilla South District BNP Convener Zakaria Taher Suman, Central Relief and Rehabilitation Coordinator Haji Amin Ur Rashid Yasin and Comilla Divisional Co-Organizing Secretary Mostaq Mia.
