Noting that the nation has been kept in confusion for many years after the brutal killing of brave army personnel in Peelkhana in 2009, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "As a state, Bangladesh is responsible for ensuring justice for this brutality. We are working towards that goal."
He made these remarks in a message on Tuesday on the occasion of National Martyrs' Day, which is being observed for the first time.
The Chief Advisor said, "In memory of all the martyrs of the brutal massacre in Peelkhana on this day in 2009, the interim government has decided to observe this day as National Martyrs' Day every year from now on. On this day, I remember with deep sorrow and pay my humble respects to the martyred army officers, the sons of the nation. I pray for the forgiveness of their departed souls. At the same time, I express my condolences and sympathy to their bereaved family members."
He said, "The members of the martyr's family are still waiting for justice for the murder of their loved ones, even after so many years of losing them. I am hopeful that the country and the people will stand by the martyr's family and all the oppressed in solidarity."
Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "From now on, this day will be a regulator of our consciousness and feelings and will remind us of the unexpected and brutal death of a group of brave people who walked the path with the vow to fight for the country. In memory of their sacrifice, let us as a nation resolve to guide ourselves on the right path. May no more lives be lost to misrule, conspiracy and egotism. May people reach their deserved position with self-respect and human rights, based on their own ability and merit."
The Chief Advisor said, "Let Bangladesh be the ideal benchmark on the path to building a world free from hunger, poverty and unemployment. On this day, in memory of the nation's martyred soldiers, we commit to building a self-reliant and civilized Bangladesh. On the occasion of Martyrs' Day, on behalf of the nation, I once again pay my humble respects to all the martyrs."
