A passenger of a battery-powered easy bike, named Chhakina Begum (80), was killed after being hit by a truck in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur. Six others were injured in the accident.
The incident took place on the highway in the Fire Service area of the upazila around 10 pm on Monday (February 24). The deceased, Chakina Begum, is the wife of the deceased Abdul Sheikh of the Gobindapur area of Dhaperhat, Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha.
Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Haque said that there were 7 to 8 female passengers on a rented battery-powered easy bike. They were returning home on the easy bike at night after visiting the Rahim Shah Bhandari shrine in the upazila. After passing the Ghoraghat Fire Service Station on the highway, an unidentified truck hit the bike from behind and fled. The easy bike was twisted and everyone was injured. On receiving the information, the fire service team rescued them and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex.
The doctor on duty said that a passenger named Chakina Begum died during the night while undergoing treatment. The remaining six injured women are receiving medical care.
The OC also said that the body has been handed over to the family through legal procedures. Efforts are underway to identify the truck that fled.
