Md. Rahad Ali Sarkar – Maritime University Representative
Students of Bangladesh Maritime University have held a hunger strike demanding the resignation of the Home Affairs Advisor for failing to control the prevailing law and order situation in the country. The main demand of the program was the resignation of the Home Affairs Advisor who has failed to maintain the overall law and order in the country and to protect the lives and property of the people of the country.
At the beginning of the human chain, the students demanded the resignation of Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who failed to manage the law and order situation in the country. The protesting students highlighted the dissatisfaction and disappointment arising from the government's actions in the current situation. The students also mentioned that the failure to maintain law and order in the country is not only an administrative weakness, but also a proof of negligence towards the safety of the people.
Talha Bin Habib, a student at Bangladesh Maritime University, said, "Where is the security of the citizens of our country? We start getting scared as soon as we step out of our homes. Our brothers and sisters are not safe. Robberies are happening in broad daylight. If we don't be responsible and protest now, who will come forward if we are in danger? If the Home Affairs Advisor cannot fulfill his duties as a responsible person, then he has no right to be in that position."
Stating that the interim government formed after the July uprising failed to keep its promise, another student, Taufiqul Islam Ashiq, said, "The government has completely failed to provide security to the people. The situation of rape, kidnapping, robbery, and extortion all around has created anger among the people." He also said, "Improve the law and order situation in the country, otherwise resign voluntarily and give someone worthy of the country a chance to build it."
The human chain, which began at 1 pm, saw students chanting various slogans, and finally, the students of Bangladesh Maritime University expressed their strong commitment to continue such protest programs to bring forward the demand for justice in society and ensure the safety of the country's citizens.
