Dumki (Patuakhali) Representative
Anwar Hawlader (50), one of the accused in the attack and clash incident in Dumki, Patuakhali, for not inviting former Home Minister and Central BNP Vice Chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, has been arrested. He was arrested by the police from the Grameen Bank Road area of the upazila at around 9 am on Monday (February 24) and handed over to the court.
According to police sources, former Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury arrived at the university campus at 10:30 am last Sunday to attend an emergency meeting of Patuakhali Science and Technology University. His followers and supporters, led by Jasim Uddin Howlader, Ibrahim Khalil, and Matiur Rahman Dipu, gathered at the university's Mukta Bangla Chattar to welcome him. On the pretext of not being invited to the event, an armed force of 10/15 people, including Bellal, Russell, and Babul, led by accused Anwar Howlader, ambushed BNP Md. Ibrahim and Matiur Rahman Dipu with a machete and seriously injured them before fleeing. Colleagues rescued the injured and after providing them with primary treatment at Dumki Upazila Health Complex, they were shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. In this incident, Matiur Rahman Dipu, the plaintiff, has filed a case against the accused at Dumki Police Station.
The main accused in the case, BAP leader Anwar Howlader, was arrested by the police from the Grameen Bank Road area and handed over to the court. Dumki Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Zakir Hossain confirmed the arrest of the accused and said that efforts are ongoing to arrest the other accused.
