The bodies (bones) of three Jamaat-e-Shibir workers have been exhumed from their graves after 11 years on the orders of a court in Companiganj, Noakhali.
The bodies were exhumed from the family graveyard of Abdur Razzak Mia's new house in Ward No. 3 of Charhazari Union of the upazila from morning to afternoon, the family graveyard of Karim Ullah Majhi's house in Ward No. 9 of Rampur Union, and the family graveyard of Kamar Uddin Bepari's house in Ward No. 1 of Charkankara from Monday (February 24) in the presence of the Executive Magistrate.
The former Jamaat camp workers who were exhumed are Abdul Aziz alias Raihan (18), son of Abdur Razzak of Ward No. 3 of Charhazari Union of the upazila, Saiful Islam (20), son of Nur Islam of Ward No. 9 of Rampur Union, and Saiful Bablu (20), son of Abul Kalam of Ward No. 1 of Charkankara Union. Among them, Saiful, a student of Bamni Degree College, Raihan, a student of Basurhat Dakhil Madrasa, was a camp worker, and Bablu was a painter and Jamaat worker by profession.
It is learned that following the court order in the wake of the case filed by the relatives of the deceased, the bodies of Raihan, Saiful and Bablu were exhumed from the family graveyard this morning, at 2:45 pm and 5:15 pm respectively. Later, the bodies were sent to the morgue of the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy. At that time, Companiganj Upazila Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Prashant Chakraborty and the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Moinul Islam were present.
Basurhat Municipality Jamaat Ameer Maulana Mosharraf Hossain said, "The relatives of the deceased have filed a case in this murder case after 11 years. We strongly demand that the accused of the murder be brought to justice through a fair investigation."
Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gazi Muhammad Foujul Azim said that the bodies of three Jamaat-e-Shibir workers were exhumed from the graves on the orders of the court. Earlier, on December 10, the body (bone marrow) of another Shibir worker named Matiur Rahman Sajeeb (17) was exhumed from the family graveyard of Nayan Haji Bari in Ward No. 6 of Basurhat Municipality in the upazila.
It is worth mentioning that on December 14, 2013, a protest march was held in Basurhat Bazar to protest the hanging of Jamaat's central leader Quader Mollah. Two and a half to three thousand people gathered in this protest march of the Companiganj branch of Jamaat-e-Islami. The police stopped the protest march led by Jamaat leaders, and clashes broke out. Seven leaders and workers of Jamaat and Shibir were killed during this time. The bodies of three of them were handed over to their families after the autopsy by the police. The bodies of the remaining four were buried without an autopsy, and no case was filed at that time. Later, on August 5, a case was filed in the court against former mayor of Basurhat Municipality Abdul Quader Mirza, general secretary of Companiganj Upazila Awami League Mizanur Rahman Badal, former Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Nuruzzaman and 112 others in this incident. Later, on the orders of the court, a murder case was registered at Companiganj Police Station.
Apart from this, former Inspector (Investigation) of Companiganj Police Station Md. Shafiqul Islam, former Sub-Inspectors Sudhir Ranjan Barua, Abul Kalam Azad, Shishir Kumar Biswas and Ukyasing Marma were also named as accused in the case.
