Police have arrested two Krishak League leaders in a case filed against them for attacking, vandalizing, arson and throwing petrol bombs at a rally held during an anti-discrimination student movement in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur. They were arrested from Bulakipur Bazar area around 10:30 pm on Sunday (February 23).
The two arrested are Ziaur Islam (38), president of the Krishak League of Bulakipur Union, and Editor-in-Chief Zaidul Islam (40). Ziaur Islam is the son of the late Shamsher Ali of Raghunat Pur area and Zaidul Islam is the son of the late Akbar Ali of Velaine Dakshin Para. Both are residents of Bulakipur Union of the upazila. Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Haque confirmed the arrest.
On the afternoon of August 4 last year, an attack was made on the anti-discrimination student movement in the Charmatha area of Ghoraghat municipal bus stand. On August 5, after the fall of the Awami League government, Shahid Sheikh, a member of the Ghoraghat municipal student group, filed a case with the Ghoraghat police station on August 24. It named 40 people, including leaders and workers of the Upazila Awami League, and named 70-80 unknown people as accused.
