A person named Mizanur Rahman Mizan was bribed with a large sum of money to question the ongoing Operation Devil Hunt campaign under the direction of the interim government and was made a Jubo League leader. After he was arrested, they took a stand against the person and vandalized the offices of the two Upazila BNP groups in Madhyanagar, Sunamganj.
To control the situation, the administration imposed Section 144 for an indefinite period in the areas around the Madhyanagar Upazila Sadar, Bazar and Bazar from 12 midnight on Friday due to fears of further clashes.
People on the ground in Madhyanagar on Sunday said that on Friday evening, under the leadership of the enthusiastic OC of Madhyanagar Police Station, Md. Sajeeb Rahman, the vice-president of the Jubo League of Ward No. 9 of South Banshikunda Union, Mizanur Rahman Mizan of Ataisha village was arrested by a leader of the Upazila BNP and a local UP member of the border, through a bribery business to take advantage of the Operation Devil Hunt campaign.
Sunamganj District Jubo Dal Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Madhyanagar Upazila BNP leader Shahid Mia alleged that while carrying out the secret orders of former Upazila BNP General Secretary and former UP Chairman Abdul Qayyum Majnu, the OC's source of smuggling trade, the UP member of Ward No. 9 of that union, Sujan, a resident of Atyasha Machimpur village, had a family dispute with Sujan, a resident of the police station, and Mizan, an innocent family member, was arrested by paying a large bribe. Majnu's people vandalized our BNP party office in the Upazila Sadar Bazar due to protests.
Former General Secretary of Madhyanagar Upazila BNP and former UP Chairman Abdul Qayyum Majnu claimed that the arrested Mizanur Rahman Mizan is a Jubo League leader. The OC of the police station can tell why the police arrested him. When the police arrested him, Jubo Dal leader Shahid took out a protest march in the upazila in his favor and even vandalized our BNP office.
When the UP member of Ward No. 9 of Dakshin Banshi Kunda Union of the upazila asked Sujan, a resident of Machimpur village, about the complaint, Sujan said he did not know anything. When asked by the police station OC, Sir, he said that Sir knew everything.
When asked about it on Sunday, Madhyanagar Police Station OC Md. Sajib Rahman said that ward Jubo League vice-president Mizanur Rahman Mizan has been arrested as an unknown accused in a Special Powers Act case filed in 2024. Mizan was not a named accused but his involvement was found in the investigation of that case.
His name, position and title are not in the Jubo League committee of Dakshin Banshi Kunda No. 9 of the upazila, the family alleges that Mizan was arrested by taking bribes through your (OC) source of the border smuggling trade, UP member Sujan, who is a collector of extortion, and Upazila BNP leader Abdul Qayyum Majnu. In response to the question, OC Sajeeb said, "Now, how much can I say? Former Awami League MP Ranjit Sarkar has posted on Facebook in favor of Mizan, saying that he is a Jubo League leader, which proves that Mizan is a Jubo League leader."
The family claims that, based on the news and photos of the arrest, former MP Ranjit Sarkar made a provocative post on Facebook claiming to be a Jubo League leader. The OC avoided answering the question of how legal it is to take someone into account as a Jubo League leader and get involved in a case after seeing the post posted by the former MP, where the name and title are not mentioned in the committee.
