An alleged murderer of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy named Abdullah has been arrested by locals in Muradnagar Upazila of Comilla. The accused father, Qari Abu Naim, has been arrested and handed over to the police.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Saturday in the Uttar Para area of Muradnagar Upazila Sadar.
The killer's father, Qari Abu Naim, is the son of the late A. Khalek Miah of Uttar Para area of Upazila Sadar.
Local sources say that Abu Naim had been denying that the baby Abdullah was his son since his birth. After his birth, he had even tried to strangle the child once. This led to a dispute within the family for a few days. Several attempts were made to resolve the dispute socially over the incident.
Mother Shahida Akhter complained, "My husband killed our son. I want him hanged." She also said, "My son Abdullah was feeling fever since yesterday. In the morning, I told my husband that I was taking him to the doctor. Then he said, 'You stay at home, I will take him.' He said, 'You stay at home, I will take him.' He took Abdullah and left alone. He turned off his mobile phone. I can't contact him anymore. Later, around 12:30 pm, my son left the house with the dead body. At that time, when I screamed, the locals arrested him.
Muradnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidu Rahman said, "The father, Abu Naim, has been arrested on charges of murdering his child. After examining the child, the body has been sent to Comilla Medical College (CMC) for an autopsy to determine the cause of death."
