An armed robbery has taken place at a Beximco Pharmaceuticals depot in Moulvibazar. The robbers looted Tk 6.6 million and took 13 people hostage. Police have described the incident as 'mysterious'.
Depot Deputy Manager Reza Mia said on Saturday (February 22), "The incident took place at the Beximco Pharmaceutical Company depot located in Syed Badruzzaman Bhaban in the Banavithi area of the district town at around 3am on Friday (February 21).
That night, 7 employees were working at the depot. Suddenly, 3 armed robbers took a total of 13 people hostage, including the doorman who was outside. Then, they broke the lock on the depot gate and entered Reza Mia's room on the third floor.
The robbers tied the hostages, including Reza Mia and his wife, with their hands and feet. Later, they broke open the iron locker of the second-floor office with a drill machine and looted 6.6 million taka in cash. At that time, they also took one and a half tons of gold ornaments and 12,000 taka in cash belonging to Reza Mia's wife. The robbers also removed the hard disk of the depot's CCTV camera as they left.
Moulvibazar District Police Superintendent AKM Jahangir Hossain described the incident as mysterious and said, "Three people have committed such a big incident by taking so many people hostage. This seems mysterious to us. However, we are trying to find out the details of the incident through investigation. Legal action will be taken after the investigation is completed."
Police have already raided the spot and started an investigation. It is said that various steps are being taken to catch the robbers.
