Arafat Rahman Fahim (21), the younger brother of Abidur Rahman Aqib, the former vice-president of the Dhaka Metropolitan North branch of the banned student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League after July 24, was arrested in public by Lalmohan Police Station on the night of February 18 while a mahfil was being held at Islamia Kamil Madrasa in Lalmohan Upazila of Bhola.
Fahim's family and some people who did not want to be named said that although Fahim belongs to a political family that supports Awami League, he was never involved in any immoral activities or violence. However, many believe that his elder brother Abidur Rahman Aqib was arrested without any proper evidence because he was active in the central level politics of Chhatra League and the accused was a former member of Chhatra League of Upazila Islamia Kamil Madrasa. His family is demanding a sound investigation and a transparent verdict in this case.
According to reliable sources, a case was filed at Bhola Lalmohan Police Station under Section 154 of the Penal Code in connection with the murder and violence during the July movement after the August 5 mass uprising, with former MP from Bhola 3 constituency Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon as the main accused, various leaders and activists of Bhola Awami League-Chhatra League, including her assistant, and a total of 55 people, and the rest as unknown accused. Fahim, a newly passed Alem of Lalmohan Upazila Islamia Kamil Madrasa and a student studying at Kabi Nazrul College, was arrested as an unknown accused in that case.
