A woman from Shakuni Lake area of Madaripur city has been accused of raping her after giving her drugs. The accused Rahat alias Shuvo (30) is the son of Matiur Rahman Selim alias Sekandar Sheikh of Ghatmajhi village of Sadar upazila. The victim filed a rape case with Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station in this incident. The victim held a press conference in the New Town area on Saturday (22 February) afternoon, demanding proper investigation and justice for the incident.
The complainant said at the press conference that Shuvo, the son of Matiur Rahman Selim alias Sekandar Sheikh of Ghatmajhi village in Madaripur Sadar upazila, was her relative. Due to the relationship, Rahat alias Shuvo (30) would occasionally visit her ancestral home. Since Shuvo was a private car driver, he would rent his car for family needs and go to various events.
He had a falling out with the husband and wife over some family issues. At one point, the relationship almost broke down. Taking that opportunity, Shuvo took her from her home, promising to reunite her with the woman's husband, and on the evening of November 11, 2024, he took her away from her home by taking her to her husband's workplace, Rajbari, in a private car. Later, he stopped the car at the owner's house in the Pakdi area of the city, saying he had some work to do. Then, he covered the woman's face with a handkerchief mixed with an intoxicating substance. Later, when the woman became unconscious, Shuvo took her to the rented house of Qayyum Mia in the Pakdi area of Madaripur city. At that time, Rahat alias Shuvo raped the woman and recorded the entire video of the rape on his smartphone and took some obscene pictures. When the woman regained consciousness around 10 pm, the woman asked why she had been brought to that house. Later, the accused Shuvo showed her some obscene pictures and videos and threatened to post them on social media, Facebook, and YouTube if she told anyone about the incident.
The woman was afraid and could not say anything. Later, Shuvo brought her to his house. Shuvo was requested to delete obscene pictures and videos from her mobile phone with much pleading and begging. The accused Shuvo threatened to spread the pictures and videos and lived in rented houses in Madaripur city and Dhaka and raped the woman. Apart from this, he extorted a total of 3,30,000/- (three lakh thirty thousand) taka from the woman at different times. Moreover, he took a total of 2 lakh taka loan from BRAC, ASHA and CSS NGOs by posing as a wife. The woman had to pay the installments. When Shuvo's family was informed about the matter, they did not pay any attention.
On the afternoon of January 8 this year, he asked her to go to the accused's house in Ghatmaji village. When the woman did not want to go there, the accused Shuvo sent obscene pictures to the woman's WhatsApp and said that if she did not go there as he said, he would spread the obscene pictures and videos on Facebook and YouTube. When the victim woman was forced to go to the accused's house in the evening, the accused took her inside an empty building under construction by her uncle. He took her there and forcibly raped her against her will, promising to delete the video forever. When she asked him to delete the video, he gathered people and threatened to ruin her reputation. In this incident, the victim woman filed a rape case with Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station. The victim woman demanded a fair trial in this incident.
