Six more people have been arrested and sent to jail for stealing mineral sand and stones by cutting the banks of the Jadukata River in Tahirpur, Sunamganj. The convicts were sent to Sunamganj District Jail in the custody of Tahirpur Police Station on Friday.
A responsible source in the Sunamganj district administration confirmed this information on Saturday.
The six people sent to Sunamganj District Jail are: Amir Hossain of Alipur village in Bishwambharpur upazila of the district, Alamgir Hossain of Anantapur village in the same upazila, Mofazzal of Shahpur village, Raihan, Mujahid Mia, and Rejuan Ahmed of the same village.
Earlier, a mobile court had arrested them while stealing mineral sand and stones from multiple banks of the Jaduka River bordering Tahirpur and sentenced them to 3 months in prison. It also collected a fine of 50,000 taka and 150,000 taka from the owners of the trawlers for transporting the stolen mineral sand and stones.
On Saturday, the Sunamganj district administration said that under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia, the executive magistrate of the district administration, 28 BGB members of Sunamganj, district police, and Ansar members, on Thursday evening, Tahirpur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md. Abul Hashem conducted a mobile court in the Jadukata River and sentenced each of the six people to 3 months in prison and collected a fine of 1.5 lakh taka from a trawler carrying stolen mineral sand and stones.
