Representative of Bidhan Mandal (Faridpur):
Anjura Akhtar (18), who is mentally disabled, cannot speak properly and only laughs when people see her. She lost her father, a daily wage laborer, at the age of just 8. Anjura is the eldest of three siblings. Her father's property is nothing but a small house on someone else's land. Anjura's mother also cannot speak properly. After losing her husband, her mother became extremely helpless with her three children. She was extremely worried about the maintenance of her sons and daughters. Upon hearing the news of the family's helplessness, Mahua Islam, the treasurer of a voluntary organization called Alo Pothi Faridpur, took responsibility for the disabled Anjura.
He raised and raised Anjura. Today, Friday (February 21) afternoon, the helpless mentally challenged Anjura sat on the wedding pyre. Mahua Islam made various arrangements at Anjura's house in Ujirpur village of Jadunandi union in Saltha upazila of Faridpur for the wedding. The groom is Abdus Salam Suman (25). He has no parents or siblings. He also cannot speak properly. Although his home is in Kushtia, he lives next to the local Moendia market. This information was learned by talking to Anjura's family.
On the spot, it is seen that Anjura's helpless mother's face is smeared with her daughter's wedding paint. She is spending a very busy time with her daughter's wedding. And in front of their thatched house, a small stove is being built in front of them and cooking is being done for the bride and groom and neighbors. Wedding songs are being played on a sound box next to it. Meanwhile, Anjura is wearing a new saree and jewelry, and the groom, Suman, is sitting in a new Punjabi and pajamas. Although both the bride and groom are mentally challenged, they are seen floating in a tide of joy as there is no shortage of anything in the wedding arrangements. Only a few moments are seen smiling. All in all, the wedding arrangements were magnificent.
Groom Abdus Salam Sumon said, "My home is in Kushtia. I don't have any parents or siblings. I run a small raw vegetable shop in Moyendia Bazar. I like Anjura. That's why I'm getting married. Please pray for us all. And I would like to thank those who have organized the weddings of poor and helpless people like us."
The wedding organizer, Mahua Islam, said, "Anjura's family is very poor and helpless. They could not afford to raise Anjura and her siblings. I found Anjura when she was just 8 years old. Later, I took her other brother too. I raised two of her three siblings. Now Anjura is of marriageable age. Her family cannot afford to get her married. So, I organized this wedding on behalf of Alo Pothi Faridpur. Many people helped me in organizing the wedding."
