A fire that broke out at a sawmill in the capital's Khilgaon has been brought under control after about two hours. According to the latest reports, the fire was brought under control with the efforts of 10 units of the fire service. However, it was not possible to completely extinguish the fire.The fire was brought under control at 9:35 pm on Friday. Fire Service Headquarters Media Cell Officer Anwarul Islam Dolon confirmed the matter.
He said, initially two units started working to control the fire that broke out around 7:30 pm, but later 10 units of the fire service joined one by one. Then the fire was brought under control around 9:35 pm. According to local sources, the fire spread from the sawmill to the car garage. Later, various cars in the garage caught fire and the cylinder exploded. At that time, people in the vicinity started running. The fire service had to work very hard to control the fire due to the crowd of excited people.
First, a fire broke out in a corner of the garage. Later, an explosion spread the fire. The fire service could not immediately say what kind of damage was done or whether anyone was inside. The affected businessmen said that there is a garage for cars and a godown for rubber raw materials in the area. Although some cars were able to be taken out, many cars were burned. There are many cylinders inside. They are afraid of these explosions. After the fire broke out, members of the army, police and RAB rushed to assist the fire service.
Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dawood Hossain said that it was initially reported that the fire started from Tutul's workshop next to Khilgaon Taltola Market and opposite Khilgaon Model College. A total of 9 shops including Tutul's workshop were damaged by the fire. Eight of them were workshops and a sawmill. Several explosions occurred during the fire. It is believed that various types of goods kept in the workshop exploded due to the fire.
