Twenty-five foreign nationals paid tribute to the language martyrs at the Shaheed Minar of Beat Model School and College in Bogra. They paid tribute with the students of the institution on Friday morning on the occasion of International Mother Language and Martyrs' Day.
The 25 citizens from Italy, Nepal, Malaysia and India paid their respects and participated in a discussion meeting and a cultural program by the students. They had come to Bogra to attend the 5th Bogra International Film Festival.
Italian citizen and filmmaker Alberto Starosta said at the discussion, "The hearts of the people of Bangladesh are very big. The sacrifice they made for the language is now being duly celebrated by people all over the world. This time's celebration is different for me. Because I was able to pay my respects to the martyrs sitting in Bangladesh."
Malaysian citizen and filmmaker Junia Anilik said, "We also celebrate International Mother Language Day every year in our country. We were impressed by this event when we came to Bogra, Bangladesh. The students of this country are very talented. I hope they will make the country's language more famous."
Engineer Sahabuddin Saikat, founder principal of Beat Model School and College, said, "Various programs are organized in our institution on the occasion of the celebration of the Great Martyr's Day and International Mother Language Day. In this event, 25 foreign citizens paid tribute by laying flowers at the Shaheed Minar. This is undoubtedly a matter of great pride in the month of language."
After the meeting, the students presented a delightful cultural program. Later, 25 foreign nationals and the head of the institution distributed prizes among the winners of the painting competition. The program was hosted by the institution's teachers Alok Pal and Tasneem Trio.
On the other hand, the district administration and JASAS have organized a seven-day book fair at Shaheed Khokon Park. Besides, government, private, political, various socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions celebrated the great February 21st through various programs.
