Naogaon Correspondent, Habibur Rahman:
In Raninagar, Naogaon, an allegation has been made against the president of the local traders' association for allegedly cutting and shaving the hair of a man after beating him for stealing a mobile phone and a raincoat. A van worker named Sajib Hossain (25) was tortured on Thursday (February 20). The incident took place at a place called Nagar Bridge in Kashimpur Union of the upazila. A video of the incident of cutting and shaving the hair of a man went viral on social media Facebook.
The victim of the torture, Sajib Hossain, is the son of Abdur Razzak of Kashimpur Charapara village in the upazila. He has demanded a fair trial in this incident. It is learned that in the past one month, eight mobile phones and two raincoats were stolen from several workers of Shahidul Islam's brick kiln in the Nagar Bridge area of the upazila. In this incident, the workers, including the kiln manager Royal Hossain, began to suspect Sajib.
Around 9 am on Thursday, four or five people, including the kiln manager Royal, beat up Sajib and tried to recover the stolen mobile phone and raincoat, but failed. After that, Sajib was handed over to Abdul Jalil, the president of the local city Brij Bazar Merchants' Association, to take necessary measures, including recovering the stolen mobile phone. Later, when they tried to recover the phones there too, they beat him up and failed, so they took him to a salon, cut his hair, shaved him and sent him home. Regarding this theft, the brick kiln manager Royal Hossain said, "In the past month, about 8 mobile phones of my brick kiln workers have been stolen."
Two raincoats were stolen on Wednesday night as well. When Sajeeb was asked about the theft of the mobile phone, he did not confess. At one stage, he did not confess even after being beaten, so I handed him over to the president of the Bazar Banik Samiti, Jalil, for recovery of the mobile phone and fair trial. But Jalil could not recover the mobile phone and the mobile phone, so he had Sajeeb's hair cut and shaved. Sajeeb was caught stealing the battery of our washing machine a year ago. However, Royal Hossain said that he should have been handed over to the police instead of cutting and shaving his hair. In this regard, Abdul Jalil, president of the Nagar Bridge Bazar Banik Samiti, said that the brick kiln manager and workers beat Sajeeb brutally on the accusation of stealing the mobile phone, making his hands and feet bleed, but they could not recover the phone. I also questioned Sajeeb, but he did not confess to the theft.
Later, when I saw long hair on my head, I cut it off and shaved it, and after giving it to Sajeeb's guardian after giving him first aid from a local doctor, I handed it over to him. However, it was a mistake to cut off and shave the hair on my head, said Abdul Jalil. Worker Sajeeb said, I work as a laborer in this kiln. Manager Royal accused me of stealing my mobile and raincoat and beat me up. Later, when I handed it over to Jalil, the president of the traders' association, he beat me up there too, cut off my hair and shaved it off. Even after I repeatedly said that I did not steal, they tortured me mentally.
I want a fair trial for this torture. Moslem Uddin, Inspector (Investigation) of Raninagar Police Station, said in this regard,
No one reported or complained about the incident of being beaten, shaved, and tortured. In this incident
If a written complaint is received, necessary action will be taken after investigation.
