Police have arrested a former municipal councilor, a Union Parishad (UP) member and a leader of the Chhatra League in a special operation called Operation Devil Hunt in Baufla.
The arrests were made in a raid conducted at various places in the upazila till midnight on Thursday (February 20). The arrested are: Bellal Hosne, former councilor of ward no. 6 of the municipality and municipal Jubo League leader, Fakrul Islam Forkan, organizing secretary of Kalaiya Union Awami League and UP member of ward no. 1, and Imran Bepari, former vice-president of Ward no. 1 of Rasumaani Union Chhatra League.
According to the police, an incident of attack, vandalism and injuries occurred at a meeting of the Bauphal Sadar Union Volunteers' Group in 2022. On August 24, 2023, the convener of the Upazila Volunteers' Group, Khalliur Rahman, filed a case with the Bauphal Police Station. Investigation into the case revealed the involvement of the arrested persons.
Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Kamal Hossain said, three people have been arrested in the Operation Devil Hunt operation. The process of handing them over to the court is underway. The special operation will continue under the guidance of the Home Ministry.
