Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, said that Bangladesh has approved the inclusion of girls in Scouting since 1994. But currently, the participation of girls in Scouting in Bangladesh is less than 13 percent. This number needs to be increased further. I hope that effective initiatives will be taken to increase the participation of women in Scouting.
He made these remarks in a video message at the inauguration of the 7-day 7th National Community Development Camp (COMDECA) of Bangladesh Scouts held at Hard Point area on the banks of the Jamuna River in Sirajganj on Thursday (February 20) afternoon.
During this time, the Chief Advisor recalled his own scouting memories and said, "I was a scout myself, I also spent my childhood scouting like you. I spent my childhood wearing scout clothes and hanging scarves like you. Seeing you reminds me of those things."
The chief advisor said, this year's ComDekar theme has been set as Scouting in building a society without discrimination. The students, workers and people of this country have given the opportunity to build a new Bangladesh through the July Uprising. Now we have to make this country suitable for future generations. And we have to be careful so that tyranny does not repeat itself on the soil of this country. At this time, Bangladesh Scouts is quite strong in the international arena, we have to strengthen this position further, he added.
The COMDECA, which will be held from February 19 to 25 on the banks of Jamuna in Sirajganj under the slogan of Scouting for building a society without discrimination, was presided over by M. Siraj Uddin Mia, Principal Secretary to the Chief Advisor and President of the 7th National COMDECA Organizing Committee. Dr. K.M. Kabirul Islam, Secretary of the Bangladesh Technical and Madrasa Department, and Farida Yasmin, Member of the Ad Hoc Committee of Bangladesh Scouts, also spoke as special guests. COMDECA Chief and Member Secretary Mir Mahbubur Snigdha delivered the welcome speech at the event.
At that time, the Deputy Commissioner of Sirajganj, the Superintendent of Police and various officials, as well as scout members and officials from all over the country, were present. ###
