Sylhet Bureau:-
Mizanur Rahman Riyad, a 3rd year student of the English Department of Sylhet MC University, a responsible member of Anjuman-e-Talamiyyah Islami and an active activist of the anti-discrimination movement, was attacked at the Sylhet MC College hostel over a simple post on Facebook. It is known that Riyad was also shot and injured during the July movement. He lives in room number 111 of the MC College hostel. The incident is said to have occurred at 12 midnight on Wednesday (February 20).
According to the statement of the injured Riyad on social media, he was brutally attacked because of a single post he made on Facebook, "There is no difference between them before and them now."
Eight or ten people entered his room and beat him up brutally. They attacked him, using obscene language. He was speechless at the suddenness and humiliation of the incident.
Riyad's roommate, Junaid Ahmed, a master's student in the Bangla department, said that after dinner, they were preparing to sleep. At that time, they heard a loud bang on the door. As soon as the door was opened, a group of students led by Jawhar Lukman Munna, secretary of the MC College student group, entered the room. 10-12A Shibir worker entered the room, kicked Riyad off the bed, hit him all over his body, including his head, with a rod, and dragged him away, bleeding. At this time, he said, a CNG autorickshaw was brought to take the injured Riyad to the hospital, but that too was returned.
They snatched his mobile phone and wallet to cut off communication. They even returned the bag with the money from the wallet of a classmate who came to rescue him. At one point, they even tried to turn Riyad over to the police as a terrorist.
When asked who attacked him, he said, "MC College Chhatra Shibir leaders Nazmul, Sadman, Ismail and other leaders and activists. They are all students of MC College."
The injured Riyad is currently undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, leaders of Anjuman-e-Talamiyyah Islami and other classmates of Riyad went to the hospital to see him.
When contacted, the officer-in-charge of Shahparan Police Station said he was not aware of any such incident. He said, "No one has filed a complaint with us yet."
Regarding the attack, Naeem Hossain, the publicity and media secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Shibir, said, "We are investigating the matter thoroughly. Because it is our responsibility to investigate the matter deeply. The fascist allies are trying to discredit the July Revolution in various ways. They are working in that way and speaking in that language. We are being vigilant to uncover the insidious nature of the incident. If our workers are involved in this attack, the organization will take a strict decision against them. However, after the actual incident, we will issue a press release to clarify our position."
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam (Media) said, "We are seriously investigating the incident of the attack. We also have to see the motive behind the comment on Facebook. We are also working on the reason for the attack, why the attack was carried out, who is involved, considering the overall situation. Although we have not received any written complaint from any party yet, the police have taken action considering the interests of the spirit of the July Revolution. Currently, the officers have taken action on the responsibility, our goal is to conduct a detailed investigation." He also said, the injured Riyad's house is in Osmaninagar. However, his condition is not serious.
