Locals handed over three cow thieves to the police after a mob attack in Sherpur. The incident took place in the Fakrabad area of Jhenaigati upazila on Thursday (February 20) morning. The arrested are Alam Mia (35), son of Abdul Aziz, Golam Rabbi (17), son of Abdul Latif, and Shamim Mia (24), son of Saidul Islam, of Dudhnai Taltola area of the upazila.
According to local residents, the three cow thieves, Alam Mia, Golam Rabbi and Shamim Mia, broke into the cowshed of farmer Ali Hossain in Fakrabad area late on Thursday night to steal cows. When the people of the house heard them and screamed, the people around them surrounded them, arrested them, beat them up and tied them up in a room of a local madrasa.
It is worth noting that in the past month, about 50 cows have been stolen from different areas of the upazila.
Jhenaigati police recovered two sacks of Indian-made liquor bottles from the house of a local man.
Upon receiving the news, the police station assured the agitated crowd of justice, arrested the three thieves, and brought them to the police station.
Half an hour after they were arrested, the police recovered two sacks of Indian liquor, stacked with sticks, near the house of a local named Liton, near the scene.
Police Inspector (Investigation) of Jhenaigati Police Station, Rabiul Azam, confirmed the truth about the matter and said that legal action will be taken after verifying whether the arrested people are actually cow thieves or drug dealers.
