A fire broke out in an abandoned library building in Bauphal, Patuakhali. The goods worth more than five lakh taka belonging to some local businessmen were damaged. The fire broke out in the library adjacent to the public field of the municipal town at around 1:15 am on Wednesday night.
According to locals, the abandoned building has no electricity connection. It has been used as a hangout for criminals for a long time. They believe that the fire may have started due to drug use.
Upon receiving the news of the fire, the workers of Bauphal Fire Service and Civil Defense Station quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Warehouse Inspector Sabbir Ahmed said, "After receiving the news through telephone, we quickly reached the spot and set up a water truck. Then we had to hurry up to set up the pump in the canal. However, there was no mistake in the efforts to quickly extinguish the fire."
It is to be noted that the library's activities were scheduled to begin after almost two decades in the new building adjacent to this abandoned building at 11 am today (February 20).
