In a raid by Jessore Battalion (49 BGB), 01 accused along with foreign liquor, Indian Phensidyl, marijuana, saree, three-piece, blanket, kichmis, ointment, chocolate, various types of medicines and cosmetics were seized.
Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) Commander, Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui, SPP, PSC, said that as part of the BGB's operational activities, BGB's intelligence and patrol activities have been strengthened at the border for a long time to arrest smuggling gangs including narcotics and contraband goods. In continuation of this, today, on 19 February 2025, a special anti-smuggling and anti-drug operation was conducted in the border areas of Shikarpur, Masila, Shalkona, Dhanykhola, Benapole BOP, Amrakhali Check Post and Benapole ICP and a total of 7,37,820/- (seven lakh thirty seven thousand eight hundred twenty) taka worth of foreign liquor, Indian phencidyl, ganja, saree, three pieces, blanket, kichmis, ointment, chocolate, various types of medicines and cosmetics were seized along with 01 accused. The name of the arrested accused is Md. Roni Babu Hasan (18). He is the son of Md. Tahidur Rahman of Mahishakura village of Balunda union of Sharsha upazila of Jessore district.
The BGB captain further said that the goods were seized by smugglers who were illegally smuggling goods from India to Bangladesh by evading customs duties. In this way, the domestic industry is being damaged due to smuggling of Indian goods and the country is being deprived of significant revenue income. It is worth noting that the local people applauded the great initiative of preventing the country's revenue evasion and protecting the youth of the country from the brutal scourge of drugs and the patriotic and public interest operation of the BGB. He also requested the BGB to continue such operations in the future.
