Two people were reported killed in a joint operation in Mohammadpur, the capital. Five people were arrested during the operation. Several rounds of bullets, a foreign pistol and a chapati were recovered. The incident took place in the 40 feet area of Basilar, Mohammadpur, on Wednesday midnight.
Abdur Rob, wireless operator of Mohammadpur Police Station, told the media that police were sent to the scene after receiving reports of two deaths.
It is learnt that during a routine patrol of the joint force, some armed men opened fire on the members of the joint force. At that time, the joint force returned fire, killing two people. However, the identities of the deceased are not known. Five people have been arrested and weapons have been recovered from the scene.
Police said that the terrorists entered a house after sensing the presence of the joint forces. They were asked to surrender, but did not respond and opened fire on the joint forces. The law enforcement forces returned fire in self-defense. Later, they entered the house and arrested 5 terrorists along with weapons and ammunition. The bodies of two of them were recovered.
Mohammadpur Zone Assistant Police Commissioner AKM Mehedi Hasan said, "We arrested five people. Then we took them to the roof of the house. When we got there, we saw two bloody bodies. One of them was holding a pistol and the other a machete. There were several other people with them, who fled from different sides of the house."
