Police have arrested Rafiqul Islam Robin, the leader of an inter-district dacoit gang in Lakshmipur, with bullet wounds. He was arrested from Rakhalia area on Lakshmipur-Raipur road before evening on Tuesday (February 18). He was later admitted to Ramganj Upazila Health Complex.
A foreign pistol, two bullets, and a motorcycle were recovered from Robin.
Police said that Rafiqul Islam alias Robin, son of Shamsun Nur Patwari of Changirgaon area of Ramganj upazila, is the leader of an inter-district dacoit gang. There are 13 cases against him, including robbery, murder, arms and kidnapping. He was absconding in all these cases for a long time. This afternoon, the police conducted a raid in the area based on information that he was staying in Rakhalia area with weapons. At that time, Rafiqul Islam tried to open fire after sensing the presence of the police. At one stage, the police fired a bullet. Rafiqul Islam was shot and arrested. At that time, a foreign pistol and two bullets were recovered from him.
Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abul Basar confirmed the incident and said that robber Rafiqul Islam Robin has been admitted to the hospital with bullet injuries. Robin is the leader of the district inter-district robber gang listed by the police. There are 13 cases against him. Preparations are underway to file another case under the Arms Act.
