Accusing President Md. Shahabuddin of maintaining silence during the genocide in July and August, the Revolutionary Students' Council has demanded that he not go to the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of Ekushey. The organization's convener, Abdul Wahed, made the demand from a public sit-in at Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture on Wednesday afternoon.
Abdul Wahed said, 'We lost more than two thousand brothers and sisters in July and August. But during the entire incident, President Md. Shahabuddin remained silent. Besides, it is also unknown to anyone that he became the President with the votes of illegal MPs in Sheikh Hasina's illegal election. Sheikh Hasina has fled. Parliament has been dissolved. The MPs have also fled. Yet he is still in office as the President. Although the students demanded his resignation, he did not step down. But the people did not accept him either. He is just surviving with the support of vested interests.
He said, "Our demand is that President Md. Shahabuddin will not set foot on the Dhaka University campus, the birthplace of the July Revolution. He will not go to the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of February 21st."
It is worth noting that the head of state or president of the country usually pays tribute by laying flowers at the martyrs' altar at 12:01 am on the first hour of Ekushey.
