The two forces of the July mass uprising are knocking on the door. This time, the new party organized by the initiative of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee is in the spotlight, with former VP of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur and his party, the People's Rights Council. There are rumors in the political arena that if they get the 'top' post, the People's Rights Council may be dissolved and merge with the students to become 'one party'. However, leaders of both parties are giving more opinions in favor of the allied political forces.
Talking to the leaders of the People's Rights Council and the Citizens' Committee, it was learned that Nurul Haque Nur wants to join the new student party. He is a candidate for one of the top two positions in the party. Apart from this, another proposal is under discussion to have one spokesperson in the new party and have the members of the standing committee run the party. If that happens, he can become a member of the standing committee there.
Sources say that Nur has held several meetings with top leaders of the Citizens' Committee over the past few days. These issues were discussed there. However, no final decision has been made. Over the past few days, internal conflicts surrounding the upcoming post of member secretary of the party, especially the distance created with former Shibir leaders, have further fueled these discussions. For the same reason, former leaders of the People's Rights Council who are in the Citizens' Committee have started becoming active around the party's debut.
Sources further said that most of the leaders of the Citizens' Committee do not want to see Nurul Haque Nur as the convener or member secretary. In that case, there may be a political alliance or an electoral alliance. On the other hand, top leaders of the People's Rights Council say that there is little possibility of one party without making Nur the convener. Because most of the leaders and student advisors of the Citizens' Committee have been in politics with Nurul Haque Nur for a long time. If Nur is made the convener, the party will be stronger.
Meanwhile, regarding the announcement of the party, Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the Citizens' Committee, said, "There are differences of opinion, not conflicts, regarding the formation of a new party. No matter where the opinion comes from, the decision will be made in consultation with everyone. The announcement of the new party will be made within a week. That will be between the 24th and 26th."
