Police ASI Anisur Rahman has been arrested by Gobindaganj Police Station in Gaibandha district with 9.5 kg of marijuana. He was arrested at the Charmatha intersection in Gobindaganj Municipality on Tuesday, February 18, at around 5:30 pm.
The arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (AAI) of the police has been identified as Md. Anisur Rahman (40). He is the son of Alimuddin of Charkhata village in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila and was working at Palashbari police station in Gaibandha district.
According to the police, on Tuesday afternoon, on the basis of a secret information, Sub-Inspector (SI) Manik Rana of Gobindaganj Police Station along with a team conducted a drive on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in front of Dutch-Bangla Bank at Charmatha intersection in Gobindaganj and searched a TVS Apache 160 cc motorcycle (Dhaka Metro L-49-4918) going from Palashbari to Bogra and arrested Anisur Rahman along with 9.5 kg of ganja. The motorcycle used for transporting the ganja was also seized.
Confirming this, Gobindaganj Police Station OC Bulbul Islam told reporters that a case was filed against the arrested Anisur Rahman on Tuesday night. Case No. GR 23/25.
Meanwhile, Gaibandha District Superintendent of Police (SP) Nishat Angela told reporters that the policeman arrested with drugs has been temporarily suspended. A departmental case will be filed against him.
