A 9th grade student of a local madrasa was raped in Uttar Bakakura village of Kangsha Union in Jhenaigati Upazila of Sherpur. When the incident came to light on Tuesday (February 18) night, the girl's mother (35) tried to commit suicide by consuming poison, unable to bear the humiliation.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, the victim's uncle has filed a rape case against four people at Jhenaigati Police Station. The rapists are Ilias, son of Suruj Ali of Kalinagar village in the upazila, Abu Said, son of Abu Dawood of Uttar Bhaluka village, Abdul Matin, son of the deceased Abu Taher of Deflai village, and Rashed, son of Abdur Rahim of Jhenaigati Sadar.
According to the complaint filed by the victim's family and the police station, on the afternoon of February 14, four female students of class 9 and other students went to the office of a foreign NGO located in Ghazni on vacation to attend as sponsors. After completing the attendance, the four girls and their friends went to a water park in Ghazni.
While the other accused, led by Elias, took the hostages at gunpoint, the other three girls managed to escape.
During this time, Elias and the other three raped the girl by locking her in a room at the water park. Later, the rapists released her after threatening to kill her if she did not reveal the incident.
Later, on Tuesday night (February 18), the rapists, Elias and Abu Said, were spotted by the victim's friends at the local Bakakura market and arrested after a massive search.
Upon receiving the news, Ilyas and Abu Said's men rescued them and fled. Upon hearing this news, the victim's mother (35) attempted suicide by consuming poison, fearing public shame.
Later, the locals and the victim's family rescued the victim's mother and first sent her to Jhenaigati and then to the District Sadar Hospital. When her condition deteriorated there, the victim's mother was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment on Tuesday night. She is currently battling for life.
In this incident, the victim's uncle filed a rape case with the police station on Wednesday afternoon, accusing four people. Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, the police rescued the victim on Tuesday night, brought her to the police station, recorded her statement, and sent her to Jamalpur in police custody for a medical examination on Wednesday afternoon. There is widespread anger among the locals over such a heinous incident.
Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Al Amin confirmed the truth about the matter and said that the matter has been taken very seriously. However, the operation to arrest the accused is ongoing as they are in hiding.
