In Shahjadpur, Sirajganj, an engineer of the Upazila LGED, AHM Kamrul Hasan Rony, has been accused of secretly hoarding school bags allocated for distribution to various educational institutions in the upazila under the ADP project instead of distributing them.
It is learned that in the fiscal year 2023-24, a decision was taken to distribute sewing machines among the poor in various villages of Shahjadpur upazila and school bags to students in various educational institutions. Ullapara contractor Md. Faisal Quader Rumi was given the responsibility of implementing this project, the estimated cost of which was set at 4,20,000/- Taka.
Although the 30 sewing machines allocated under the project were distributed after the scheduled time, the allocated school bags have not been distributed yet. There are allegations that Engineer AHM Kamrul Hasan Rony has been hoarding the bags for dishonest purposes.
When Engineer Rony was asked about this, he initially tried to avoid reporters. Later, he claimed that the distribution of bags was not possible due to the delay in providing the list by the Upazila Secondary Education Officer.
However, the project's S&S surveyor Alamgir Hossain said that the matter was verbally informed to Upazila Secondary Education Officer SM Shahadat Hossain. On the other hand, Upazila Secondary Education Officer SM Shahadat Hossain clearly stated that no one had informed him anything before today.
When the matter came to light, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Kamruzzaman seized two school bags and 81 more locked in the trunk from the office of the project's S&S surveyor Alamgir Hossain at around 3:30 pm on Wednesday. He later handed them over to Upazila Secondary Education Officer SM Shahadat Hossain.
It is worth noting that various allegations have been made against Engineer AHM Kamrul Hasan Rony in the past. These include coming to the office late as desired, unlimited corruption in the construction of various roads in the upazila, and behaving disrespectfully with journalists. These allegations have angered the locals.
Upazila Executive Officer Md. Kamruzzaman said that the bags were supposed to be distributed in the last fiscal year, but it is not known why it was not done. Engineer Rony will have to be contacted in this regard.
