Surbhi, a ninth-grade student, committed suicide out of pride after her father was unable to pay her. The tragic incident took place on Monday afternoon in Chatua village of Tukuria union in Pirganj upazila.
The deceased Surbhi was a student of Chatua Madrasa. Family members said that she had been arranged to go on a picnic to Rajshahi from the madrasa. She asked her father for money to participate in the picnic. But due to financial difficulties, her father Ranju Mia expressed his inability to give the money. Feeling ashamed of this, Surbhi committed suicide by hanging herself in her bedroom on Monday afternoon.
The family's cries filled the surroundings. A shadow of grief descended among classmates and locals. Upon receiving the news, Pirganj Police Station reached the spot and recovered the body.
Pirganj Police Inspector (Investigation) Saiful Islam said the body was handed over following the family's request. A case of unnatural death has been filed at the police station in this incident.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the area. Many are seeing the helplessness of the family due to poverty and the tragic fate of the teenager Surbhi with pain. Locals believe that such accidents occur due to family financial problems as well as lack of mental awareness.
Now the question is - if a small amount of money for a picnic can take a life, then who is responsible for making teenagers mentally strong?
