Abdullah Al Mamun, joint general secretary of the banned Chhatra League organization of Dhaperhat Union in Sadullapur Upazila of Gaibandha, was killed in a mob lynching.
It is known that Abdullah Al Mamun, son of Md. Abdul Mannan Mandal of Hasanpara village of Dhaperhat union, had been involved in extortion and various types of terrorist activities for a long time. In continuation of this, he was beaten to death by angry people during an extortion dispute in Hasanpara of Dhaperhat union (on the afternoon of February 13). However, it is known from the locals that this incident may have happened due to land dispute and extortion.
In this regard, the father of the deceased Abdullah Al Mamun, Md. Abdul Mannan Mandal (on February 14 afternoon) filed a murder case at Sadullapur Police Station accusing 27 people. However, the case was filed intentionally, falsely, fabricated, baseless and harassingly involving 16 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists in the case statement.
Local residents said in their statements that they know the people from Jamaat-Shibir, none of them could have been involved in this incident. Local residents alleged that there is an attempt to divert the Mamun murder incident into a different category, which is unfortunate.
This has created discussion, criticism, excitement, and deep concern in the area.
Prominent individuals and people from various quarters have been protesting against this deliberate false case involving Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists. Conscious citizens and prominent individuals of this upazila, including the locals, have demanded the withdrawal of this case. The locals demand that the false, fabricated, baseless, harassing case filed be withdrawn and a new case be filed in the name of the real culprits involved in the murder.
