Abu-Hanif, Bagerhat Correspondent:
Seven people, including a woman from the same family, were injured in an attack by the opposition group in Bagerhat. During the attack, members of the opposition group also attacked the family's home.
The incident took place at around 9 am on Friday (February 14) in Khalishakhali village of Charbaniari union in Chitalmari upazila of the district.
The injured in the incident are Ruhidash Biswas (70), Bhanumati Biswas (55), Mintu Biswas (43), Ranjit Biswas (40), Suborna Biswas (30), Ashiq Biswas (21) and Jati Roy (18) of Khalishakhali village in Charbaniari Union. Later
The victims called 999 and the police came and rescued them. The injured were admitted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for treatment after they were unable to be admitted to Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex due to fear for their lives. Among them, Mintu Biswas was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical.
Injured Ruhidash Biswas said, Nur Islam Sheikh (43), son of the deceased Arshab Sheikh of Aar-Buniya area of Chitalmari upazila, gave me 180,000 taka at various times to buy land, but after a few days he said he would not take the land and wanted the money back. I sold the land and returned the money.
When he spoke, he caught my eldest son Mintu Biswas and made him sign two checks and a white stamp. A few days later, he filed a case in court with the checks.
When we tried to negotiate locally, he first took 30 thousand taka from us and gave a fixed date. On that date, when my middle son Ranjit Biswas went to pay 50 thousand taka, he left the money and my son's motorcycle. Later, on Friday, February 14, Noor Islam, his wife Shiuli Begum, brothers Bellal Sheikh and Milu Sheikh, along with 25 to 30 people, came to my house and severely beat up my wife Bhanumati Biswas, son Mintu Biswas, Ranjit Biswas, daughter-in-law Suborna Biswas, grandson Ashiq Biswas and granddaughter-in-law Jati Roy. At that time, the people around could not come near them due to fear.
Later, my middle son Ranjit Biswas called 999 and the police came and rescued us. Later, when the police left, we could not leave the house and could not seek treatment anywhere, so their people surrounded our house. We managed to escape and came to Bagerhat and were admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment. In this regard, we are not able to go to Chitalmari Police Station to seek legal recourse due to fear for our lives. When I asked the accused Nur Islam Sheikh about the complaint on his mobile number 01948-133400, he said that when I went to ask for the money I was owed, Ruhidas' family members attacked me. Later, the police rescued me and brought me back. My wife Nurunahar has filed a complaint in this regard at Shiuli Police Station.
Chitalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahadat Hossain said, "I have not received any complaint in this regard, and legal action will be taken if any complaint is received."
