Police have arrested Md. Mamunur Rashid (30), the president of the Chhatra League of Aolai Union in Panchbibi Upazila. He was arrested in a drive led by SI Abdullah Al Mamun and ASI Sohel Rana of Panchbibi Police Station from Chanpara Bazar on February 16, 2025.
In July 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement, Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists launched armed attacks on protesting students and the general public, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. As a result of this violence, the interim government banned Bangladesh Chhatra League on 23 October 2024 under sub-section (1) of Section 18 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009.
According to police sources, Chhatra League leader Mamunur Rashid was involved in the attacks on student protesters in July, beating them up and murdering them after they were accused of being supporters of the Awami League government. He has multiple cases against him.
In this regard, Panchbibi Police Station OC Md. Mainul Islam said, Md. Mamunur Rashid has multiple cases in his name, and there is also a warrant in his name. Mamunur Rashid was the president of Chhatra League of Aolai Union No. 08. Just like the devil hunt campaign is going on all over Bangladesh, this campaign will also continue for us. And we have handed him over to the DB office of Joypurhat district. From there, action will be taken against him.
