Faridpur's Nagarkanda Upazila Social Service Officer Mohammad Kazi Nimeri has been accused of demanding a bribe of Tk 10,000 for requesting a list of the needy and disabled people in the upazila.
Recently, a social worker named Nazmul Talukder of the upazila sent his manager Omar to the office of the Nagarkanda Upazila Social Service Officer to ask for a list of the disabled people of the upazila. When the officer asked the manager for a list, the officer demanded a bribe of 10,000 taka. The officer told the manager that the government fee would cost 2,000 taka to get the list. At that time, the representative sent without taking the list went to the house of a social worker. When the officer was informed by phone that it would cost 10,000 taka to get the list over the phone at night, the social service officer sent a WhatsApp message to the representative on his mobile phone and gave his bKash number in it. The officer wrote 2,000 taka for government fee and 8,000 taka for office expenses and said that the matter would be kept secret. The victim manager Omar came to the office of the local daily Khola Chokh newspaper and complained about the officer asking for money. And he said that the list of the disabled people could not be obtained without money.
Upon receiving the complaint, reporters from local and national daily newspapers and journalists went to the social services office and asked the officer about the matter. In response to the journalist's question, he said that the government costs money to obtain the list documents, but he could not give a good answer. He also denied asking for money. Upazila BNP office secretary Md. Golam Mostafa said that since the social services officer joined the office, the public's suffering has turned into a boil due to various irregularities.
Upazila Executive Officer Kafi Bin Kabir said that if it is proven that the social service officer asked for 10,000 taka to obtain the list, legal action will be taken against him.
