Many political party leaders have proposed banning the Awami League at the National Consensus Commission meeting. They claim that the Awami League is irrelevant in the current context. They also said that they will discuss the trial of the party's leaders for the July murders.
On Saturday afternoon, a meeting of the National Consensus Commission led by the interim government's chief advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, was held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
Responding to questions from journalists after the meeting, Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, "The boat that has sunk will not float again. Everyone agrees that the Awami League is irrelevant in the context of Bangladesh. A proposal has been made to ban the Awami League through legal process. A demand has been made to cancel the registration of the Awami League."

People's Rights Council President Nurul Haque Noor said, "Everyone agrees on the issue of banning the Awami League. We want local government elections first."
National Citizens Committee convener Nasiruddin Patwary said, "We have talked about bringing a legal process to the July Charter. We have talked about a new constitution. We have talked about the Awami League's trial issue. We have demanded a new constitution through the Constituent Assembly."
A six-member delegation led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir participated in the meeting. Besides, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmed, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Jatiya Party (Jafar) Mustafa Jamal Halder, BJP Chairman Andalib Rahman Partha, Bangladesh LDP Chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim, Islami Andolon Presidium Member Syed Mohammad Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju, People's Rights Council President Nurul Haque Noor, Gano Forum Presidium Member Subrata Chowdhury, leaders of Jatiyatabadi Samamana Jote and Bangladesh Labor Party were also present at the meeting.
