A teenager has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a village in Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj after being unable to bear the humiliation. The youth's name is Md. Zayed Ali (15). He is the son of Md. Akram Ali of Gojaura village in Surma union of the upazila. The young man committed suicide around 11:30 pm on Friday night when everyone was asleep after having dinner.
According to local and police sources, on the afternoon of Friday, February 14, Zayed Ali ate chocolate from a shop in his village without saying anything. When the shopkeeper informed his family members about the incident, his mother and other family members abused Zayed Ali. Unable to bear the insult from his family members, Zayed committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope from a branch of an amra tree near his house at night. The next morning, Saturday, the family members did not find Zayed in his room and started shouting at him when they saw his body hanging from an amra tree behind the house. Later, the villagers reached the spot and informed the Doarabazar police station. The police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
In this regard, Doarabazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidul Haque confirmed the truth of the incident and said that an accidental death case has been filed at the police station in this regard.
