A bus carrying a wedding party lost control and fell into a ditch on the Dhaka-Barisal highway at Bhabukdia in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur. At least 38 passengers were injured on the spot. The accident occurred around 10 pm on Friday (February 14).
It is learned that a wedding procession was returning to Binatpur, Rajbari, from Barisal with about 220 wedding guests in 3 buses and a microbus. On the way, a bus carrying 50 of the wedding guests suddenly lost control and overturned in a ditch. As a result, about 38 people were injured on the spot.
Eyewitnesses and local residents said that as soon as they finished the Barat prayers, they suddenly heard a loud noise and ran to see that a passenger bus had overturned in a ditch. The bus was full of passengers. We quickly informed the fire service and highway police. Without wasting their time, we quickly rescued the passengers trapped inside the bus. Later, the fire service personnel and the police arrived and rescued the remaining injured and sent them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Bhanga Highway Police SI Mamun said that a bus carrying the groom was heading towards Rajbari. On the way, it lost control and fell into a ditch when it reached a place called Bhabukdia in Nagarkanda Upazila. The bus carrying the groom was originally heading towards Binatpur in Rajbari after completing the wedding ceremony.
He added that all the passengers on the bus were injured, but the seriously injured were rescued and sent to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Bhanga Fire Service Station Officer Abu Zafar said, "After receiving the news of the accident at 9.56 am, I and a team rushed to the scene. We safely evacuated all the passengers, including the helper, from the overturned MM Paribahan bus. The seriously injured have been sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. It is initially believed that the accident occurred due to a mechanical fault in the vehicle."
