Sheikh Russel Bridge in Narail renamed as Shaheed Salahuddin Bridge. Narail Sheikh Russel Bridge renamed as Shaheed Salahuddin Bridge. The leaders of the Narail Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have renamed the bridge built over the Chitra River as 'Sheikh Russel Bridge'.
Ujjwal Roy, district representative from Narail, said that on Thursday (February 13) afternoon, under the leadership of Md. Shafayet, member secretary of the Narail Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the name of the Sheikh Russell Bridge built over the Chitra River was changed to that of Shaheed Salahuddin, who was killed in the July Revolution uprising, and a banner was hung.
Kazi Yajur Rahman Babu, the main organizer of the anti-discrimination student movement, and Nawab Molla, the joint convener, and other leaders were present at the time.
After hanging the naming banner, the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement said, 'There will be no establishment in the name of Awami League and their allies anywhere in Bangladesh, including Narail.' Shaheed Salauddin was a resident of Shiarbar village in Lohagara upazila of Narail district. He was shot dead in Dhaka during the July 24 revolution.
It is worth noting that the construction of the bridge on the Simakhali ferry ghat of the Chitra River, the heart of the city, began on April 30, 2014, under the supervision of the Local Government Engineering Department. Although the construction period was set until June 2017, the construction work was completed three months early. The bridge was opened on March 16 that year before the inauguration to facilitate public movement. The bridge was inaugurated on Thursday, October 11, 2018 the following year.
