Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals while trying to illegally enter India at the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah. They were arrested during a special anti-smuggling operation in the Rajapur and Kusumpur border areas of the upazila around 6 pm on Monday (February 23). A huge quantity of Indian Phensedyl was also recovered in the same operation.
Security measures at the border and BGB activities
The patrol team of Maheshpur 58 BGB has been maintaining strict vigilance in the border area to prevent illegal infiltration and drug smuggling for a long time. It is reported that the number of smuggling and illegal infiltration has decreased recently due to the increased presence and patrol activities of the BGB at the border.
According to a BGB press release, 33 bottles of Indian Phensedyl were recovered in a raid in the Pukurpar area of Rajapur village based on a tip-off. In addition, 7 Bangladeshis were arrested while crossing the border in a raid in the Kusumpur area. It is believed that the arrested persons were trying to illegally enter India.
Drug smuggling and illegal infiltration: a worrying situation
The Bangladesh-India border has long been a hotbed of illegal crossing and smuggling. Despite regular operations by the BGB, it has not been possible to completely stop drug smuggling and border crossing incidents. It is believed that drug smuggling and illegal infiltration take place through local gangs in the border areas.
Concerned people say that many residents of the border area are involved in smuggling for a living, which is posing a threat to law and order. The BGB and other law enforcement agencies are keeping a close watch on this issue.
Legal measures and government actions
The BGB said that after taking legal action against the detainees, they were handed over to the concerned police station. There are plans to conduct more stringent operations in the border areas to recover drugs and prevent illegal infiltration.
The government has already taken steps to strengthen security in border areas by installing high-tech surveillance cameras and other technologies, which are expected to reduce smuggling and illegal crossings.
Border security and future plans
In addition to the BGB, the importance of local administration and public awareness in strengthening border security is immense. Creating alternative employment opportunities for people in border areas will significantly reduce the rate of smuggling and illegal crossing.
Through this operation, the BGB has once again proven that they are determined to suppress border crime. If the law enforcement agencies continue their activities, it will be possible to keep border crime under control to a great extent in the future.
