A college student has been staying at the house of a policeman in Shivalay, Manikganj for three days, demanding marriage. The incident has created a sensation in the area. The student has gone to the house of Md. Hasan Ali, son of the deceased Sahaj Uddin, of Dhusar Kalibari village of the upazila, and has taken up residence.
On Sunday afternoon (February 9), a crowd of eager people was seen in front of Hasan's house. However, since the family members were absconding, no one was able to talk to them.
The victim, a fourth-year BA (Hons) student at Manikganj Devendra University College, said she had been in a relationship with policeman Hasan Ali for four years through a friendship on Facebook. At one point, the policeman, Hasan, had a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her.
He further said, "Hasan's mother did not agree when we talked about marriage, so she advised me to go to her house. Seeing no other option, I came to her house on December 28. Later, his mother and family members said that when Hasan comes on leave, he will be married socially after 40 days. I went back. But even after the scheduled time, no initiative was taken for the marriage."
Then, on the afternoon of February 7, he returned to Hasan's house. But Hasan's mother and sister had left the house and moved elsewhere. He said that all the members of the family are currently absconding.
The victim student said that Hasan is working as a police constable in Natore. His constable number is 966 BP-9818210402. But now it is not possible to contact him as his mobile phone is switched off.
Local UP member Md. Khabir Uddin said that about a month and a half ago, when the same student took up residence at Hasan's house demanding marriage, he was given a written promise to marry her within 40 days. But after the stipulated time passed, the girl took up residence at the police house again demanding marriage.
Shibaloy Police Station Officer-in-Charge A.R. Al-Mamun said that no one has filed a complaint in this incident yet. If a complaint is received, necessary action will be taken after investigation.
