Joypurhat District Representative:
8-2-25 February
The accused in the case of an attempted murder in Nunuj Bazar area of Udaypur Union in Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat are roaming openly. There have been allegations of intimidation and threats to the victim to withdraw the case.
It is learnt that on the evening of November 16, due to a previous enmity, accused number one Warez Ali (51) and his gang openly attacked Aminul Islam Sohag, a former UP member of the Nunuj Bazar area of the upazila, with country-made weapons in broad daylight, blocking his motorcycle and beating him with a ramda, chapati, iron rod and stick, breaking his hands, feet, chest ribs and bones, including the tendons of his right leg.
The victim filed a case of attempt to murder with Kalai police station, accusing 17 people including Warez Ali. Even after three months of the case, UP member Sohag and his family are suffering from extreme insecurity as the police have not arrested the accused.
The case was filed naming 17 people, and the victim's younger brother, Atiq, confirmed that the court granted bail to 9-17 accused on November 28. Even though it has been three months since the case was filed, the police are not taking any action against accused 1 to 8 for unknown reasons, the victim's family alleges.
The accused 1-8 are Warez Ali (51), Faridul Islam (34), Majedul Islam Mizu (36), Wadut Ali Mandal (55), Humayun Kabir (28), Nayem (27), Tanmoy (16), and Sujaul Morshed (34).
The victim, Aminul Islam Sohag, has been receiving treatment at Dhaka Pangu Hospital for almost two months and is receiving treatment from home due to lack of funds.
Amla's investigating officer, Humayun Ahmed, was called several times on his mobile phone, but it was not possible to get a statement as he did not answer the phone.
In this regard, Kalai Police Station OC Jahidul Islam said, "The investigation into the case is ongoing. It is not right that the police are not arresting the accused intentionally."
