Two children have died after being run over by a truck in Sadar Upazila of Noakhali. They are cousins. The father of the child Arafat, Abul Kalam, who was killed in the incident, has been admitted to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital in a critical condition.
The accident occurred in front of Bhuiyan's house on the west side of Baikanthapur Bazar on Islamia Road in Charmatua Union of the upazila around 8:30 am on Tuesday (February 11).
The deceased were identified as Asma Begum (6), daughter of Saddam Hossain of Bhangati village in Nyarya in the same union, and Md. Arafat (5), son of Abul Kalam of Faridabad village. They were second-grade students of the local Quality Education School.
Locals said that Abul Kalam went to his in-laws' house around 8:15 am. From there, he was going to school with his son Arafat and his sister-in-law's daughter Asma on a bicycle. When the bicycle reached the door of Bhuiyan's house on the west side of Baikanthpur Bazar on Islamia Road in Charmatua Union of the upazila, a local truck going to Notunhat Bazar ran over it. Two children died on the spot. Locals rescued Abul Kalam in his injured condition and admitted him to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital.
When asked, Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamrul Islam said, "Police were sent to the scene after receiving information. The truck was seized from the scene, but the driver fled. Further legal action will be taken based on the complaint of the deceased's family."
