A protest was held in Fulchhari Upazila of Gaibandha to protest the killing of former army member Ruhul Amin and demand justice for those involved in the murder. A memorandum was also submitted to the temporary army camp, the District Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police demanding justice for the murder.
The human chain was held on DB Road in front of Ganasas Market in the district town at 11 am today (Tuesday, February 11). The program was organized under the banner of the organization of local residents and retired members of the district's armed forces.
The speakers said that freedom fighter Ansar Ali Sarkar of Katlamari village in Gazaria union of the upazila was in a dispute with former UP member Abdur Rahim Madhu of the same village over land. On the afternoon of January 28, a fight broke out between the two parties over irrigation of the disputed Boro paddy land. At one stage, Madhu's people attacked them, injuring three brothers. Ruhul Amin, a Surrey army member, died in the early hours of February 1 while undergoing treatment at the Rangpur Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after being seriously injured.
The speakers demanded the immediate arrest of all the accused involved in the incident and ensuring exemplary punishment.
Retired army members Ayub Ali Prodhan, Shahadat Hone Maju, former army warrant officer Aminol Islam, senior warrant officer Rafiqul Islam, retired sergeant Jamil Ahmed, Anwar Hossain, Md. Abu Taher, retired naval officer Enamul Haque, former vice chairman of Fulchhari Upazila Shahidul Islam, among others, spoke at the human chain.
Meanwhile, after the hour-long human chain, they took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to the in-charge of the temporary army camp located in the new building of Gaibandha General Hospital. Later, from there, they took out another procession and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
